G.J. LaBonty is currently the Manager of Long Range & Strategic Planning with the Utah Transit Authority in Salt Lake City. Mr. LaBonty has more than 18 years of experience in transportation and urban planning. He received a B.S. degree in Architecture from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA and an M.S. degree in Geography from the University of Utah in
Salt Lake City, UT.
Mr. LaBonty has worked as the planning project manager for several regionally significant transit projects including the Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail Line, the Sugar House Streetcar and the Draper Light Rail Transit Corridor. Mr. LaBonty is currently responsible for working with the Metropolitan Planning Organizations along the Wasatch Front in developing the transit elements of the Long Range Transportation Plans. He also currently manages UTA’s travel demand modeling program.
His current research interests include the impact of transit on air quality, improved bicycle and pedestrian access to transit and mixed-use land impacts on transit ridership.
